Cryopreservation plaform for wild and improved forest genetic resources
Cryogenic facility

Cryogenic facility

The cryogenic facility located at FCBA Pierroton is composed of 5 cryogenic tanks with automated filling for sample storage in vapour nitrogen (Arpège 170, Air Liquide) and 2 tanks for storage in liquid nitrogen (Cryosystem 6000, MVE and GT80, Air Liquide). The total capacity is ca. 38 000 cryopreserved samples of 2 ml max in volume. Samples are stored inside safe-lock, tightly sealed cryovials (100 cryovials per cryobox).
Each cryovial is physically labeled (color code, self-stick permanent labels) and precisely located in the cryogenic collection (position in cryobox, cryobox position in each canister, N° canister and N°cryotank). A specialized software (Coolbase, Air liquide) is recording the information relative to each sample.
